How to Time Block Your Day

  1. Start with the fixed points. Block meetings, meals and commitments first — everything else flows around them.
  2. Give your most important work a prime block. Put deep work in the hours when your focus is highest, not the leftovers.
  3. Batch the small stuff. Group email, messages and admin into one or two blocks instead of letting them leak everywhere.
  4. Leave buffer. Keep a block or two open for overflow — a plan with zero slack breaks on contact with reality.
Tip: When a focus block starts, run a Pomodoro timer for it, and use the Eisenhower Matrix to decide which task earns your prime block.

What Is Time Blocking?

Time blocking is the practice of planning your day as a series of dedicated blocks, each assigned to a specific task or type of work. Rather than working from an open-ended to-do list, you decide when each thing happens — which protects your attention and removes dozens of small “what next?” decisions.
